Dealing with Stress

                      Dealing with Stress

Stress! Everyone experiences it. It’s a part of life and makes living difficult. But we rarely try eradicating it. Eliminate stress. It is a bane to happy living.  Begin stress elimination by its cause identification.

Causes of Stress

Surprisingly, not only tragic, but even happy events cause stress. Examples: Celebrating Christmas, child birth, etc. Joy makes stress recognition difficult. This delays stress busting. How to identify stress then?

Identifying Stress

Identify stress by its symptoms. A few signs of stress are undue irritation, behavioural changes, bodily pain, etc. Whenever you feel thus, look for the causative factor. Change the situation. If changing situation is not possible, change your response to it. This leads to a stress free life.

How to Beat That Stress!

February 7th, 2008

Stress is normal. Only when it increases beyond our capacity, does it harm. Though each of us is different and reacts differently to various situations; highly stressful situations unless tackled with, can seriously impair us all.

Our body sends us signals of distress whenever our stress levels rise too high. These signs could be anything from exhaustion, depression, skin rashes, and hair loss to even loss of self confidence. Thus, the need arises to find out ways of how to deal with stress.

Developing our inner strengths is the best tool to combat stress. Here are a few pointers to attain your peaceful nirvana!·

  • Complete relaxation in mental as well as physical terms- listening to calming music or tapes of positivism.·
  • Positive thinking/ affirmative self talk- letting go, visualization of optimistic situations and reconfirmation of past achievements.
  • Meditation and Yoga– deep breathing, focusing on pleasant emotions.
  • A balanced lifestyle- healthy eating, anger management, time management, rehabilitation or reforms.
  • Exercise- learning a new art, pottery, dance, painting, fishing or a gym workout can burn out stress.
  • Changes in the surroundings, job or the situation.
  • Take counseling or talk to trusted friends when facing too much confusions.

Anorexic celebrities

Let’s be realistic here!

Is it possible for a mother of two active toddlers to look like she’s just stepped out of salon? Being impeccable groomed is impossible if you have children. And I’m not talking about Victoria Beckham who always looks like a fashion plate. And Posh spice had to hire at least two new nannies after the recent shift to the US.

The media lambasted the troubled superstar Brittney Spears, when she dared to wobble her breast-feeding boobies and hips at a mightily amused and somewhat stupefied public.

But I seriously find it difficult to understand, why it is so difficult for the media to accept a mother of two children for what she is. The resulting media glare drove the poor girl to one rehabilitation center after another ultimately resulting in losing custody of her two adorable tots to the somewhat weird father (what’s the deal with the hat?)

So is it any wonder that the million of fans allover the world are driven to emulate the stick-thin figure of celebrities. Anorexia and bulimia are steadily on the rise because of the unrealistic expectation of looks and beauty the media forces down on expectant mothers.

The recent astonishing news being; although JLo is ecstatic about her pregnancy, she’s not so cool with weight gain. The star seems to be getting up at 4.00 am to exercise in the fourth month of pregnancy.  Definitely not safe! And what is the message it conveys to hundreds of adoring fans? That mother hood and pregnancy is a thing to be ashamed about. I seriously abhor this attitude which forces healthy teenagers to avoid food like the plague. Forgive the ranting, but all parents want the best for their children. So imagine what a parent must be going thorough seeing there beloved children intentionally starving themselves to death!  I can’t even imagine the grief!

What causes Stress.

Stress is a funny syndrome, what one person can be really stressful about might not be even a blink of an eye for someone else. I would say Stress is relative. Between me and my brother we have a lot of variances in how we deal with stress. I am the more relaxed guy in some cases. When we were in high school (he is 2 yrs elder than me) we ended up taking my dad’s 69 chevy and rammed it into a wood fence, the whole front bumber and the hood got a sound beating. The car was beyond recovery at that point. Then my brother almost choked to death, not because he got hit physically, but because he was scared to face dad, and was stressed out. I was totally calm,  I should have been the one to be scared, I was the one who was driving. But I was calm and was not at all stressed out. The next 5 days were a living hell for my brother, until my dad returned and forgave us.

Well there are the opposites of this story too, when I was started working at an Accounting firm as a data entry person, I was carrying a lot of stress, the fear of me messing up the entries was way too much for me. I was taking the stress with me where ever I went. I had to quit the job just cause it was way too much for me to handle. My brother who was working for the same company, 2 years earlier had no issues at all handling the job.  Call it a strange case of relativity or just a mind set on how you take things.
