Control your Chronic Kidney Disease!

November 12th, 2007

As you know Chronic kidney disease is an irreversible condition but don’t lose heart just yet. The main cause of kidney disease is hypertension and diabetes. So if you can control either then you have a good chance of improving your quality of life and here is how you can do just that,

Control blood pressure: Blood pressure must be controlled to below 130/80 mm Hg to reduce the workload on the kidney and to prevent kidney disease. A sodium restricted diet also seems to work wonders. Increase your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables and consult with an experienced ayurvedic practioner who can guide on what type of herbs to use which can control chronic kidney disease and your hypertension.

Control your diabetes: This is not as easy as it sounds. Diabetes is a cruel disease in which the patient craves sugar but cannot really have it. So get regular pokes done to check blood sugar levels and try to control your weight

Alternative remedies: You can also try cumin-coriander-fennel tea by boiling equal amounts dry powdered cumin, fennel, and coriander in water. You can drink the decoction two to three times a day.

Please remember that different drugs can have different side effects but it is essential to take the medications to control high blood pressure. Side effects of blood pressure medication can be lowered blood potassium levels, difficulty sleeping, tingling in the hands etc but some types of anti hypertensives have a beneficial effect on the kidney by lowering blood pressure in the kidneys and retarding kidney disease. Always consult your doctor before changing medications or stopping them.
