Exercise: Endorphins: Exuberance

If you have often found yourself sitting in front of the television with a pint of Chunky Monkey ice cream, wishing you looked like the models in the lingerie advertisements, I have the cure for you.

It is not a new fad diet, a diet pill, or a 10 minute work out to flatten your stomach instantly. For many, though, it is a new concept. Would you like to know what it is? It’s a 3 step program that will take time, energy, and commitment. That’s right; diet and exercise.

Don’t be fooled by the word diet. The definition of diet is not starvation, lack of taste, or lack of flavor. It is simply portion control and choosing wisely. Those are two of the three steps. The third would obviously be exercise.

STEPS

1.       Choose Wisely – For women especially, choosing foods that are high in protein and low in carbohydrates means that we not only stay full longer but it also keep our energy longer. Other tips include, shying away from processed foods. Eat as much fresh vegetables and fruits as you can.  Lastly, stay away from sugar!!!!

2.       Portion Control – After you’ve chosen your food wisely, make sure you don’t over eat. If you eat 4-6 small meals a day, rather than 2 or 3 large meals a day, you keep your metabolism at a constant flowing rate, and you never get to the stage of starvation that leads to you craving sugar and fats.

3.       Exercise – This is the dreaded word that we all fear. To most it means pain, suffering, and hard work that is not very effective. What you must remember is that it does not work overnight. It is most beneficial to lose 1-2 pounds a week. This way it comes off slow and safely, but stays off longer. 30 minutes a day of power walking is the best way for women to build bone density, get a good workout without killing themselves, and it promotes good heart health.

I’m sure everyone knows the basics I have just pointed out, but did you know that many women who have trouble conceiving can change this simply by eating better and exercising 4 times a week for 30 minutes? Exercising and eating the right foods help insulin travel smoothly through the body which increases blood flow, circulation, and productivity.

So the next time you’re sitting in front of the television with your beloved pint of chunky heaven,  and you see that beautiful woman that you envy so much, don’t shove another bite into your mouth; jump up and be exuberant!

Tips for Permanent Weight Loss

February 3rd, 2008

1. Exercise

Exercise is the most important factor in permanent weight loss. People who aim to lose weight should make it a point to exercise consistently because there is no short cut to long term weight loss.

2. Weight training

While this may be considered part of exercising, weight training deserves to be a category in itself. This is because the more lean muscles you have, the more calories you will be able to burn without effort!

3. Keep a food diary

Having a food diary can be very helpful in your weight loss plan. List down all the food you eat each day and include your feelings and hunger level before eating as well. The food diary can provide a significant amount of self-awareness for you.

4. Focus on becoming healthy

You can become successful in permanent weight loss when you start to focus on becoming healthier. You will be able to change your eating habits successfully when you start to care for your health.

5. Portion control

A lot of restaurants serve enormous meals; be mindful about the portion sizes of food you consume at each meal. If necessary, divide your food in half so you won’t overeat.
